Happy New Year!

YardGirl Creations, LLC Graphic Arts & Design is excited about 2016!

We are starting 2016 off strong! This small graphic design business has BIG plans for the new year.

First on the list, a new website. After months of edits and weeks of tweeks we’ve come up with a new site that is fresh, clean, and streamlined. Most important, THIS SITE IS RESPONSIVE!!! That’s right. There are no excuses now because you can see us on any device.

IS YOUR SITE RESPONSIVE? IF NOT, CONTACT US FOR HELP.

We were so busy meeting and serving other great small businesses this year that we neglected to make very necessary changes and updates to our own site. So we updated our portfolio to include work done throughout 2015. Check it out.

We’ve moved our platform to WordPress. Which is working out pretty good so far. I won’t name the previous company used (it rhymes with kix).

After constantly being told that I (Sonya Barbee, Owner of YardGirl Creations, LLC) should start a blog, I have decided to give it a try. I have encouraged many clients to do it because I do believe it’s another way to get more exposure for your business and show who you are behind the brand. But to be honest I wondered, “who cares what I have to say?” But Donald Trump has shown me that it’s not really about who cares about what you say – the point is to just say it. So that’s basically what I’ll be doing. 🙂

This is my first entry. I will discuss my plans and experiences as a growing small graphic design business; share my progress on current projects; and maybe share some personal projects. People who know me well know that I absolutely love infomercials and offer great reviews to my friends on new products that I find. I was thinking that maybe I could share some of my reviews as well. If I’m having a dry spell I may even try to redesign something related to those products and ask for input from readers.

Many of my peers express that they hit creative blocks. This often happens to me as well. Like many small business owners I have a “day job” that stifles my creativity. I am hoping that this blog will also help keep my juices flowing. I’d enjoy getting feedback from readers but let’s keep it positive and constructive. In the words of Ms. Erykah Badu, “I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit”.

As a pre-launch to this site. I had a hand full of my old clients/friends review it and provide feedback. I initially had a different design and was told it needed a “pop” of color. Our corporate colors are black, white, and grey. Although I am a firm believer to staying true to my brand, I added a bit of red. I hope this will please Jacqueline Morgan@ Round About Cleaning, and Halima Davis who is embarking on a new business in the upcoming year. Also special thanks also to Rae Rajah Hodge, who also has something big planned for 2016; Renee Goss @ Clear Evidence; and Victoria Gilbert who does it all, including starting her own vineyard, Topaz Vineyards.

Hi! Just a random blogger here checking you out after you liked one of my comments elsewhere…

If you need any help getting the blog off the ground I highly recommend the courses WordPress offers at BloggingU. I did Blogging101 while I was starting out and it really helped me get into the flow (until life stuff kicked me out of the flow again). I signed up for the follow up course too but it was more focussed on brand definition and stuff like that. I’m not there yet but you’d probably get a lot out of it.
